Memorial Day Weekend Wishes
Dear Friends,
I hope you’re all spending the weekend laughing, barbecuing, and reading comics. I did the “Drink and Draw” event last night in Chicago with Charlie Athanas and the Full Body of Horror group, which was great fun. Today I’m taking my 5-year-old son to see SHREK.
As we enter into this weekend, I am honoring the memories of my father, USAF Lieutenant Colonel John N. Dorman, my mother Phyllis (Hickman) Dorman, my Aunt Margaret (Hickman) Falvey, and my grandparents on both sides. There’s just way too damned much cancer causing way too much sadness in this world, and I wish we could eradicate it. My new book, “Rolling Thunder: The Art of Dave Dorman” (IDW/Desperado Publishing) reveals a lot of my more interesting family history. My dad and my paternal great-grandfather were literally parts of history. The book will be out in July, launching at San Diego Comic-Con where I’ll be a special guest this year. If you’re attending, be sure to stop by for a signed copy. It’s 5 pounds of art, crazy stories, probably way too personal revelations, and never-before-seen artwork. If you like my work, you will treasure this book.
As always, I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great weekend.
Dave.

I can’t make San Diego, Dave. I will, however, be sure to see about getting a copy of your book — as it sounds like a poignant and fascinating work that you have planned to share — asap.
Cancer… yes, it is an illness that mankind should conquer once and for all. Enjoy your weekend observance. I never really viewed Memorial Day as a ‘holiday’, but people need excuses for time away from their jobs…while a portion honor those that served and sacrificed.
