Yes, Dave Dorman WILL Be at Star Wars Celebration 5

Dear Friends,

I’ve gotten a lot of questions via FaceBook over the last week about whether I’ll be exhibiting at Star Wars Celebration 5 in Orlando this coming August 12-15th. Yes, I will be there, but not in Artists’ Alley. I will be in my own booth next to artist and friend Jason Palmer.

I will also have a brand new print for sale. It will be in the same letterbox format as my previous Star Wars Celebration prints. My wife Denise will be photographically documenting the progression of my new painting, so once the show is over, I can share that with all of you on my blog.

I will also have with me at Star Wars Celebration 5 my new book, ROLLING THUNDER: The Art of Dave Dorman, which Denise co-authored. It’s 312 pages of my memoir, artwork and never-before-seen work and stories. I hope you all like it – it was a LOT of work, digging in my Indiana Jones-like warehouse of archives to compile it all. It is published by IDW Publishing in conjunction with Desperado Publishing, and it’s a gorgeous book. There’s a regular version for $49.99 and a signed, limited edition version with a separate cover for $79.99. I’m donating 10% of our earnings for as I’m a former military brat who supports NFPs that support our military families.

I thank you all for your interest. It means a lot to me.

  1. This is excellent news! I can’t wait to stop by your booth (again) and spend some more money!!! Any chance of getting a sneak peak at the new CV print?

I believe Lucasfilm will be displaying a “rough” version of it that I submitted to them for approval. Keep watching online and let me know when you see it.

  2. That is great news, Dave!!! Looking forward to see you again!

Thanks, Gary. Be sure to ask me for one of my official 501st member cards, also!

THIS is the news I have been waiting for, I read your schedule saying that you would be there, but was waiting for you to announce that you had a new print as well. This made my day Dave!!! How many prints will there be? Any chance of letting us request a specific number? Can’t wait to see you there!

      Hi Erick,
I’m waiting to hear this week from Lucasfilm as to what the rules will be this year about pre-selling of the prints. If they allow it, then we can work together on reserving the # you want. I’ll keep you posted, or feel free to ping me back again. I’ll be at San Diego Comic-Con this week, but I’ll post something as soon as I know for sure.

  4. Sounds awesome. I won’t be able to attend, so I’ll miss it. 😦
Are you going to make a Youtube video of the painting? I’d love to see all the awesome brush strokes.

      Hi Maurice,
Thanks for posting my interview! Are you coming to Comic-Con?

My wife Denise will be photographing it in stages to create a slide show presentation, but we don’t have the budget to hire a videographer. It takes me about 10 to 14 days to complete a piece of this size and magnitude. She can certainly capture some clips of me painting it and post them. Sorry to hear you won’t be able to attend this year. Again, thanks for everything.

I just joined the Bloodfin Garrison of the 501st out of Indiana. I’m more of their “handler” right now though. (still working on the Shadow Trooper costume) Will you have quite a few of your 501st cards? I have photos of you signing my tattoo from Celebration III on my Facebook page! Can’t wait to visit your booth at CV!! Thank you so much for all you’ve done 🙂

      Hi Rhea,
First off, congrats on joining the Bloodfin Garrison of the 501st. I think the 501st is the truest camaraderie there is. Quick story from San Diego Comic-Con – we had just gotten our badges last night (Preview night) and this young man approached me. He had built some Star Wars models and I had allowed he and his brother to display them in my booth years ago. He never forgot that. Then he sucker punched me – he shared that through the Star Wars online network, he posted that he was in kidney failure. A total stranger from the Star Wars message boards donated his kidney, and this guy’s alive today because of the camaraderie that is the Star Wars community. It really choked me up. Anyhow, yes, I will have the 501st cards with me and hope to have enough for everyone who wants one! Thanks for asking.
