Punxsutawney Phil tells me Spring is just around the corner!  And with Spring comes the beginning of CONVENTION SEASON. I will be doing at least one show per month in 2016, so please keep your browser set here for updates.

And no, that goofy guy Scott Roush from the Bleeding Cool News article is NOT my rep (thanks for the heads up, Rich Johnston!), nor is he booking me at any conventions. For the record, my only booking agents are Denise McDonald Dorman of WriteBrain Media and Mike Alexandropoulos.

My first show of the year will take me to Pensacola, Florida for PENSACON, February 19th – 21st. I will have prints and books for sale, and as always my autograph is FREE!

I’ve just produced a special edition of my sketchbook series LEADWORKS. This year I will be doing a Star Wars-centric edition. This book will feature all pencil drawings.. roughs, finished art and many unpublished pieces going back 25 years to my first SW works with Dark Horse Comics right up to my current work with Marvel and some NEW never before seen drawings from SW: The Force Awakens.

LEADWORKS by Dave Dorman, Ltd. Edition

This special book will be 36 pages (previous editions were 24 pages) with a card stock cover and high quality interior pages to show off the detail in the pencil renderings. It is 5.5″ x 8.5″ same size as previous editions. For those of you who love Adult Coloring Books, here’s your chance to color my work! I’d love to see what you do with it and I hope you share it here!

Unlike the previous editions, I will be doing a LIMITED SIGNED AND NUMBERED run of this book, limited to 400 copies. This will be the only version I will be printing. However, I am not raising the price. It will remain at $20.00 (postage included, worldwide). The book will be ready to ship the 3rd week of February.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens — New Artwork By Dave Dorman

The excitement runs high in our house as my son Jack and I get ready to go see Star Wars: The Force Awakens tonight! Oh…did you not know there was a new Star Wars movie coming out this weekend? It’s true!!! And we hope the force is strong with J.J. Abrams and company. Tomorrow, Friday the 18th, I will be doing a video review for my son’s YouTube channel. It will be fun, and I PROMISE that it will be spoiler free!

Quite a number of you have asked if I was going to be painting any art for the new Star Wars film or maybe even doing a fan movie poster piece. While I have not produced any licensed work for the film, obviously the imagery screams for me to do something. I would love to do a movie poster style piece but I felt I could not do the film justice until I had seen it. So now that I am about to experience it tonight, don’t be surprised if you see a poster-type piece done in the near future.

However, I have been trying to work on two pieces these past couple of months. Unfortunately, I could not find time to finish them in time for the movie premiere. I will continue working on these over the holidays and will share them with you when they are complete. The first is a portrait of Rey and BB8 on the planet of Jakku. The second piece I am having fun with. It is taken from the very famous line in the first movie (the fourth, for you completists) Star Wars: A New Hope. Found Art and New Prints Available to You

Dear Friends,

Happy winter, everyone!! I hope you are not buried in snow where you are. Here in Chicago, the unpleasant stuff is knee deep!

I’m relieved to say that my new studio over the garage is done finally, and I am happy with it overall. It is smaller, but definitely comfortable and there’s plenty of natural light coming in, which is any artist’s wish for his or her studio. During this move, I found a small Captain America piece in my flat files. It was a fun piece I did for a card set in the 1990s ( I wish I could remember which one) that featured my art on a nine-card subset of the “Best of Marvel” characters. I have been a big fan of Cap’s for a long time. Jack Kirby and Jim Steranko were great influences on my love for this character, so no doubt, I was happy to do an action portrait of this favorite hero!

I have decided to put this Captain America art up for sale and share it with some lucky fan.

Cyber Monday Special: Dave Dorman Art Poker Cards! And #SWTOR News!

Cards and Games!! These are my topics for a Happy Cyber Monday, Everybody!

I am throwing this quick blog together since you’re on the computer anyway ordering your Holiday gifts. I have two pieces of news to mention this time around:

Many of you know that I play the online game Star Wars: The Old Republic (aka SWTOR) nightly. It’s a wonderful adventure/fighting game with a great feel for the Star Wars universe. You can be a Sith Warrior, a Republic Commando, and even a Jedi! I really enjoy my hours spent in the world of “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away!” (And a quick shout-out to my guildmates in PURGE on the “Bastion” server!)

So here’s what happened: SWTOR has a robust array of costuming and armor supplies for your character. I opened the game a few weeks ago and noticed new armors added to the game. And there was one set that looked very familiar. It was Ulic Qel-Droma from “Tales of the Jedi,” which was a character I designed for Dark Horse and painted on quite a few TOTJ Comic and graphic novel covers. Below you will see one of my paintings (TOTJ #1) with Ulic Qel-Droma, and dropped in, you will see the character screen shots from the game. Nice job and a huge honor, SWTOR designers!! (And SWTOR design team, if you ever need more costume, creature, or character designs I’m just an email away!)
