Hi Everyone!
I have a fun collectible to offer you. As some of you know, I had the distinct pleasure of doing a variant cover for one of the comics world’s most famous
characters… ARCHIE! Click here to order directly from me now: http://davedorman.com/dormanARCHIE1variant.shtml
ARCHIE COMICS Variant Cover #1 from Dave Dorman for M&M Comics

ARCHIE COMICS Variant Cover #1 from Dave Dorman for M&M Comics

Archie Publications is relaunching “Archie” in July 2015 with a new focus–bringing him and all of our favorite Riverdale characters into the 21st century. While I have been a fan of Archie since I was a kid, he was never a character that I ever thought I would paint. I tend to be more into the sci-fi/fantasy/horror comics genre, and Archie tended towards the more cartoony style. But with this change from Archie’s editors to bring a new look, I took the opportunity from M&M Comics (the retailer I
did the wildly successful Marvel Comics Star Wars #1 Variant cover with) to produce a more realistically painted cover for Archie #1. It was great fun and a great honor to make this comics icon look like he stepped into the real world.
This M&M Retailer Variant will only be available from myself and M&M Comics. The book will hit the stands on July 8; however, I am offering a pre-release sale of the Archie Variant #1 Comic Book. You can order the book directly from me, bagged and boarded, and PERSONALLY AUTOGRAPHED by me. The cost of the book is $15 plus $5 shipping. You can order as many as you like. AND AS AN EXTRA BONUS, only available through direct ordering from me, you will receive an EXCLUSIVE mini-print of the original pencil version of the cover art, also signed by me. This print will not be offered anywhere else. This edition is limited to ONLY 1,750 copies (and I only have a portion of these to sell personally) so please do not hesitate to order if you would like your own copy for your collection.

Dear Friends,

I’m excited to announce that Dima Elissa, CEO of ProofX in Chicago will be presenting the world premiere of the 3D print-out of my WASTED LANDS villainous character THE HOLLOW MAN at MacWorld  tomorrow as part of her presentation at 11:40 a.m. titled “3D Printing and Rapid Prototyping: For Macs and Medicine.” I was very fortunate to work with fellow artist Dave Taylor of Imagination Rendered in Valparaiso, Florida, who did the 3D sculpting of my HOLLOW MAN character, based on my concept art.  I was also fortunate to work with Nuha Nazy at ProofX in getting the logistics managed and the 3D printed piece produced in time for MacWorld – it was a bit of a whirlwind this past weekend on top of my appearance at REEL ART in Berwyn. (A special thanks to Corey, Robert Garcia and the team who put that event together.) Anyhow, I hope my WASTED LANDS creature is well received and if you’re in the MacWorld audience, tomorrow, send me photos or footage of the presentation since they’re not streaming it for the general public. If you haven’t already, please “Like” my WASTED LANDS Fan Page: http://facebook.com/davedormanwastedlands. Here’s the concept art for my HOLLOW MAN character:

Dima Elissa will be hosting an Open House at her ProofX location on April 8th at 1001 University Place in Evanston, IL from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and I hope those of you in Chicagoland can join us there. (Just don’t look for me there at 7 a.m.!)

Additionally, I will be participating in a 3-man art show on April 4th at Hevanston Art Gallery, 529 Davis Street, Evanston, IL curated by my longtime friend and collaborator Charlie Athanas. Joining me will be my good friends and artist colleagues, Douglas Klauba (you’ve seen Doug’s “Stella 7” art on Howard Wolowitz’s bedroom wall  if you’ve ever watched “Big Bang Theory”) and Aaron B. Miller

This week I’m working hard on meeting my deadline for Mike Kennedy, publisher of Magnetic Press, who is publishing my WASTED LANDS OMNIBUS for San Diego Comic-Con, so be sure to watch for that – I’ve recolored all of the art from my first graphic novel, RAIL: BROKEN THINGS, as well as the SKINNERS story that first appeared in PENTHOUSE COMICS. I am also creating new art for the book.

Here’s Where You Can Find Me in 2014:

April 10, 11, 12, 13, 14: I’ll be a judge again this year in the Writers & Illustrators of the Future Awards in Hollywood in mid-April, so if you need to meet with me while out there, contact denise@writebrainmedia.com and she will work hard to get you on my calendar. If you want to see me look ridiculous in a tuxedo, watch the awards ceremony streaming live that Sunday the 13th.

April 25, 26, 27 –  I will be exhibiting in Artists Alley at C2E2 in Chicago at McCormick Place

May 9, 10. 11 – Find me at Spectrum Fantastic Art Live in Kansas City, KS.

May 30, 31, and June 1: I will be exhibiting at Indy PopCon in Indianapolis, IN – this show is curated by Larry Zore of Comics Price Guide and it is a family-friendly show.

June 7: I will be signing at Joliet Star Wars Day at the Joliet Public Library – this is the World’s Largest Star Wars Library Event, so come on out.

July 24, 25, 26, 27 – I will be exhibiting at Booth #4500 at San Diego Comic-Con. Joining me will be Mike and Tim Bawden of SILENT GUNFIGHT with their WASTED LANDS Board Game, IRON WARS, plus a new WASTED LANDS card game called RED TIDE, and Steve Smith of ALAXIS PRESS, publisher of THE LEANING GIRL – the first book from THE OBSCURE CITIES series, published in English for the first time, who will join me with SDCC featured guests writer Benoit Peeters and artist Francois Schuiten.

August 14, 15, 16, 17th – I will be attending GenCon in Indianapolis – I’m not sure yet if we’re exhibiting there with SILENT GUNFIGHT.

Thanks, as always, for reading!

DAVE.

Dear Friends,

Update: Here’s a pre-holiday sale on my convention Giclee prints – just $25, since I won’t be doing any more conventions until 2014: http://www.davedorman.com/dormanartprints.shtml

First, a warm thank you to all who came by to see me at Detroit Fanfare last weekend. Also, a belated Happy Halloween to all of you. With my love for horror, it’s one of my favorite holidays of the year, and I can honestly tell you it’s even more fun when you’re a dad. For my many Indian friends, I wish you a Happy Diwali this weekend. We will be celebrating Diwali with our Indian friends at our home on Sunday. This may be the first brunch where I’ve had to forgo bacon, but I’ll take one for the team for friends.

Okay, here’s where I’ll be this weekend, most relevant to those of you who will be in the Chicagoland area this weekend:

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd:

2 p.m. – 4 p.m. BLICK ART SUPPLIES, 79 Danada Square East Shopping Center,  Wheaton, IL. I’ll be doing a live painting demo and I invite you to join me, take video, take pictures, learn my tips and techniques. I want to do a fun horror piece tomorrow to celebrate the season. Here’s their link with a map: http://www.dickblick.com/stores/illinois/wheaton/

4 p.m. – 6 p.m. — Dinner, somewhere…with my family & friends…

6:45 p.m. – Whenever our son starts getting whiny – Kosart Effects Studios & Gallery, 760 Burr Oak Drive, Westmont, IL for the annual, critically acclaimed horror art show, MALEFICIUM, curated by my longtime friend J. Anthony Kosar, whom you may know from his big win last season on SyFy Channel’s FACE OFF competition. This is a must-attend show if you love great art and great horror art. I have two pieces in this particular show.  Here’s a link to more info on this really fun show: http://www.kosartgallery.com

WASTED LANDS GAME UPDATE:

I wanted to also share with you an update on my WASTED LANDS game, IRON WARS. We are currently designing the train game pieces for the board, courtesy of my Z Brush friend Dave Taylor of Imagination Rendered in Valparaiso, Florida. In terms of game play, we received great reviews from the game testing we did at GenCon and we believe it’s ready for prime time. Now I am doing the art for the trading cards.

WASTED LANDS STORY UPDATE:

I’m currently creating art for a Wasted Lands story I’m doing for Heavy Metal magazine, as well as art for my Wasted Lands Story Bible. If you’ve never read my WASTED LANDS graphic novel RAIL, please check it out here for FREE: http://www.sequentialink.com/comic/rail-page-01/

Okay, that’s my news for today. If you want to connect with me on social media, here’s my 411:
