Dear Friends,

The summer is flying by fast and it was great to see all my fans come out to San Diego for #SDCC this year. One of the things I had for the show was my 2013 sketchbook LEADWORKS for sale. (I have changed the title this year to reflect a more dynamic name than “Dave Dorman Sketchbook”!) Like previous years, it features pencil roughs and finished preliminaries for various works I have painted from Star Wars to WoW and everything in-between (including President Obama!).
Here’s a peek at the cover:

I had LEADWORKS delivered directly to my hotel in San Diego from the printer, so I was unable to list it here for purchase until now.
You can buy LEADWORKS now via this link: http://www.davedorman.com/leadworks2013.shtml.
The price is $15.00 including postage ($20.00 for outside the USA). Of course, each copy will be signed at no extra charge.
For the first time, I am also offering a print of my critically acclaimed and much admired painting “Dorothy Daydreams.”

This piece of art was produced for the “Visions of Oz” art show in Los Angeles, sponsored by Creature Features and Taylor White.  The art is my interpretation of Dorothy alone on the plains of Kansas, dreaming of a more exciting life just over the horizon. The print is 13″ x 19″, printed on heavy archival stock, directly from my studio one at a time. The price is $30.00 including postage ($40.00 for outside the USA).

I will be at Wizard World Chicago this weekend Aug. 9-11. You will find me at Booth #313 where I will be promoting my friend Brian Wyrick’s new comic “The Henchmen.” I was honored to be asked to paint the cover for the first issue, which will debut at the convention, so please stop by and pick up a copy and a couple of creator autographs including mine!
Since it’s Shark Week, I should mention that my good friend, writer Andrew E.C. Gaska (for whom I did art in his “Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes” critically acclaimed book) has asked me to create art for his really fun new story, FRENZY, now on Kickstarter – a horror story about a shark bloodbath in the ocean – the $4k backer gets my original painting for free – we’re 22 days away from reaching our $30k goal, so if you want to help Kickstart a cool oceanic horror story, here’s the link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1867085351/frenzy-an-illustrated-novel

LOS ANGELES, CA—March 1, 2013— Dave Dorman’s “Dorothy Daydreams” original painting will be included in the upcoming Creature Features Visions of Oz gallery art show being held at the Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles, California from March 3 – 31. Dorman’s painting, rendered traditionally in oil and acrylic mediums, is a visual homage to the L. Frank Baum literary classic Oz books.

Said Dorman, “It was an honor to be invited to participate in this tribute. For Dorothy Daydreams, I returned to the spirit of L. Frank Baum’s young protagonist, capturing some of her desire to escape the harsh and desolate reality of her Kansas dustbowl farm for the fantasy of a much more colorful, imaginary world.” Dorman will be showing the art progressives from pencil illustration to final painting this weekend on this blog.

Frank Baum books, props, concepts and artwork from various Oz-themed film & TV projects and many more surprises.
