Hi Everyone,
I have joined a new group/website and I wanted to share it with you. It is called Every Day Original (http://www.everydayoriginal.com/). It is a group of very talented artist; some are my friends in the fantasy art field, some are new to me, but all are worth taking a look at. The concept behind the website is to add an original piece of art every day–a small piece priced at $500 or under–and it can be any subject matter the artist chooses. There are quite a few artists already on the site, so you won’t necessarily see a piece from any particular artist for weeks at a time. I think this is a great idea to get exposed to many different artists and new styles of work.

Which brings it to me. My first piece is going up today! I would love it if you could take a moment and point your browser to the EDO site (http://www.everydayoriginal.com/) and take a look. While this is my first piece and reflects some of my film/ genre interests, future pieces will allow me to play with other interests and subjects that I would not necessarily get to work on in my commercial work. But fear not! You will occasionally see something that is very familiar as well! (Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more, say no more….)
So please take a minute to see some wonderful work by some very talented artists… and me!
Thanks all!
Dave

Happy Post Thanksgiving, Everyone!
I’ve had a lot of response to Mike Linnemann’s article featuring the best of Magic: The Gathering art for sale (mine is Item #8). Mike posted my art from a little-known internet comic story I did in 2011 for the Planeswalker Webseries on the Wizards of the Coast website. I did one chapter of 8 pages for “Gathering Forces,” which was art for this longer graphic story. Here is the link to my specific chapter http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Multiverse/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/feature2/108a#

Buy it here: http://www.davedorman.com/planeswalkersale.shtml
The complete graphic novel is titled “Path of the Planeswalkers,” and features many chapters by other great artists in the field. It is worth checking out.
Due the massive rush of inquiries for this art, I am offering these original paintings for sale. I have been selling the panels over the past 2 years at shows, so the art I’ve listed here is all that I still have left from the story. Every piece of the art is painted in acrylic with a little colored pencil embellishment, on 9″ x 12″ inch Bristol board. The sale page on my website is http://www.davedorman.com/planeswalkersale.shtml and there is a Paypal button for each to purchase. Due to the rare and limited availability of these cells, these pieces range in price from $100 -$120 per piece.
Thanks for reading, everybody. There is more holiday shopping fun to come! Keep watching here!

Dear Friends,

The last few days have been a whirlwind, but I will do my best to be succinct in sharing my news.

Imagine F/X Magazine: Voters named me one of the “Top 100 Fantasy Artists” – here’s that link: http://beta.imaginefx.com/shop/magazine/october-2013

Dennis Miller Radio Interview: If you didn’t catch it last Friday, here’s a link to the interview with me and Christian Bladt, Dennis Miller’s producer – just click on the arrow to the right of the speaker icon and you will hear it- you do NOT have to download the clip to listen: http://bitly.com/1acvMkm

PreviewsWORLD: Here’s a link to my newly posted interview at SDCC with Vince Brusio: http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/1/71/977?articleID=138185 (and a link to the Dennis Miller interview is there, too)

GenCon: I am pleased to share that our prototype RAIL: IRON WARS strategy board game/trading card game designed by Mike Bawden and Tim Bawden of Silent Gunfight did 5 rounds of game testing at GenCon, and we received great comments and positive reviews from the players, including our good friend and game theory professor Durwin Talon and his wife Guin Thompson, so we will be moving forward with the game! Here’s a shot of the first group of game testers (these gents were from the U.K.):

Downtown Comics, Market Street in Indianapolis: A special thanks to all who came out to see me Saturday as I was signing with The Henchmen creator/writer Jameson, plus signing my other works. It was also fun to meet a pop culture kindred spirit, Drew Curtis, founder of the great website Fark.com! He has a new beer with Wil Wheaton called Stone Farking Wheaton W00t Stout, and it’s nearly sold out already so hurry and get your six-pack! Congrats to Wil and Drew!

I also want to thank Tina and Jason Rak of St. Louis for coming by Downtown Comics and sharing with me how beautifully they framed the Star Wars original painting they bought from me at the Spectrum Show in Kansas City, KS.

So…that’s about all of the excitement I can take for 3 days. Now I recuperate by drawing and painting and hanging with the family. I do want to share that I just learned will be at New York City Comic-Con October 18-21 with Kevin Eastman, Joshua Ortega and Digger T. Mesch, launching “The Other Dead” IDW comic, so please be sure to visit us in Artists Alley there. As soon as I have Table #s, I will post them here.

Dear Friends,

First off, here’s a video of the new SPECTRUM 18 book: My art is featured at about 2:18 and 5:18 in this videohttp://bit.ly/uOTP3G

Also, here’s the new-on-the-retail shelves cover I did for the first new STAR WARS CRIMSON EMPIRE comic by DARK HORSE:

I got a nice review from Geeks of Doom, which you can see here: http://bit.ly/rSyjuC

I hope some of you are coming out to the “MALEFICIUM” multimedia horror art show at Kosart Effects Studios & Gallery on Saturday night in Westmont, IL – a Chicago western suburb. It is on the order of more of a New York show with the caliber of talent involved, so we hope to see some of you there. I did a fun new horror piece here below, and in keeping with my sense of humor, I did a little “Rocky and Bullwinkle” thing with the title, which I am calling  “The Portrait of an Artist as a  Tortured Soul ,” or: “Cthulu! Gesundheit!”

Okay, here are some goofy pictures of a quick walk down to my “Dave Cave,” a.k.a. my studio. We have a house built into a hill, so we have a walkout basement, and I have taken the entire basement over as my studio. It’s sort of like a “garden apartment” with a lot of light coming in the windows, which are above ground. I didn’t stage any of this, just took some impromptu pictures, so forgive the mess. More pictures to come, but I really must clean some of the mess before I go posting them on the web.

Here’s what you see when you come down the basement stairs. My wife and I are big fans of BBC comedy League of Gentlemen, hence the Royston Vasey signage. At the foot of the stairs is a piece that brings me a lot of joy, a Star Wars painting by my friend Christopher Moeller. On the right you’ll see the hint of my Rocketeer cut-out, which was a character created by a dear friend, the late, great artist Dave Stevens.

Entrance to the Dave Cave...Beware!

When you get to the bottom of the stairs, here’s what you’ll see – my treasured autographs from 501st Members from around the world that I gathered during Star Wars Celebration shows. It brings me a lot of joy to see these every day.

You Are Now in the Dave Cave...

My father-in-law built me all of these wonderful built-in shelves and I really use them. You’ll see there’s a “Dog Fight” game on my shelf. My brother Jeff and I played this game as kids. We were never allowed to keep our toys as we were military brats, always moving from base to base and having to give up all of our toys. I saw this one day on eBay and I HAD. TO. HAVE. IT. Now I’m addicted to toys, and intent on keeping every toy I have. Sometimes I share with my son, but not always.

Here are some paintings you may recognize to the right wall walking toward my great room of the Dave Cave. The cleavage painting in latex on the right is for sale. Make me an offer.
