Some Interviews I Did This Past Week – Video & Print

Dear Friends,

I’ve decided to get better about posting my interviews since many of you probably don’t see them unless I mention them, so this past week, I did two – one with Shawn Hopman of in print, and one with host Carlos Phoenix of The Lounge Network. Here are those two links for you:

The Nerdgasm Interview:

The Lounge Network Video Interview:

The weekend of February 21 , 22 and 23rd, we will be in Pensacola for PensaCon, so Denise and I hope to see all of the friends we’ve been missing so much for the past 8 years (you all know who you are). If you’re in the Gulf Coast/Florida Panhandle area, this is a really fun show to check out with a lot of amazing guests, so I encourage you to join us there. You have no idea how happy I will be to get away from the gloom and snow.

I should mention, our co-producer on the Heavy Metal Revisited documentary we’re doing, Bunbury Films’ Frederic Bohbot, was nominated for an Oscar this year for his documentary about Holocaust survivor and the world’s oldest pianist Alice Herz Sommer in “The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life.” Keep your fingers crossed that his film wins – we’re very proud of his hard work.

If you’re lucky enough to attend Angouleme this year, you may run into Magnetic Press’ publisher Mike Kennedy, who is publishing my WASTED LANDS OMNIBUS for San Diego Comic-Con this year. I am very excited about this, and will have more to share soon.

In other random brain droppings, Denise & I started watching the French horror drama, The Returned, and it’s really addictive. I think we binge watched 5 episodes in one night. Our other new TV addictions are HBO’s True Detective, and NBC thriller Black List with James Spader is a lot of fun. Of course, we’re glad to see Sherlock back on air, and are looking forward to Walking Dead soon as well.

What are you all watching lately? Got any good leads for us? We’d love to hear what you like out there, too.

Thanks for reading,

My Friend Clydene Nee Needs Your Help

Dear Friends,

I call Clydene Nee “The Patron Saint of Artists.” She has helped so many artists over the years–myself included–at Artists Alley in San Diego Comic Con to have a very public presence and launch their careers. A modest but accomplished talent who always preferred to remain behind the scenes, she has never asked for anything in return. Her satisfaction was always derived from selflessly help others. Today I am asking on her behalf. Clydene needs a new kidney and is undergoing dialysis. Unfortunately, the medical powers that be, who admit she MUST have a new kidney to survive, don’t deem it enough of a must to put her high on the donor list. As you can imagine, her medical bills are ratcheting up. Artist Mark Brooks and his wife took the initiative to set up an online fundraiser for Clydene, and the artist community cannot thank them enough. Here is a link so you might help her, too:

In other news, my friend Joel Meadows let me know that Tripwire Magazine now has an iPad app available, so I’ve downloaded it and I think it’s great, so here’s a link to that for you:

For those of you with iPhones or iPads, my writer friends Martin Brennan and Michael B. Jackson (of video game Hitman Absolution fame) have a horror fantasy comic called 13 COINS with Simon Bisley’s mind-blowing 3D covers and interior art, so you might want to check that out. It’s available via an app in the iTunes store for just 99 cents. Martin Brennan will be here in Chicago for C2E2, so I’ll be happy to connect him with you if you’re attending the show the end of April. Here’s a link to it:

In other news, I’ll be in Pensacola the end of February for PensaCon. Check out their guest list and you’ll see what this is a great show. I’m excited to go, since I haven’t been back there since we moved to Chicago in 2005, so it will be great to reconnect with longtime friends like author Del Stone Jr. , Mike Suchcicki, attorney Bruce McDonald, blogger Kelly Henry Keathley, author Alessandra Torre, Dave and Denise Daughtry, Tom Roush, Kris Lagerloef, Jason Kennedy, Joy and Ron Todd, the Shalimar Pointe friends and many more.

As always, I thank you for reading. Remember Clydene.

Dear Friends,

The summer is flying by fast and it was great to see all my fans come out to San Diego for #SDCC this year. One of the things I had for the show was my 2013 sketchbook LEADWORKS for sale. (I have changed the title this year to reflect a more dynamic name than “Dave Dorman Sketchbook”!) Like previous years, it features pencil roughs and finished preliminaries for various works I have painted from Star Wars to WoW and everything in-between (including President Obama!).
Here’s a peek at the cover:

I had LEADWORKS delivered directly to my hotel in San Diego from the printer, so I was unable to list it here for purchase until now.
You can buy LEADWORKS now via this link:
The price is $15.00 including postage ($20.00 for outside the USA). Of course, each copy will be signed at no extra charge.
For the first time, I am also offering a print of my critically acclaimed and much admired painting “Dorothy Daydreams.”
"Dorothy Daydreams" by Dave Dorman

“Dorothy Daydreams” by Dave Dorman

This piece of art was produced for the “Visions of Oz” art show in Los Angeles, sponsored by Creature Features and Taylor White.  The art is my interpretation of Dorothy alone on the plains of Kansas, dreaming of a more exciting life just over the horizon. The print is 13″ x 19″, printed on heavy archival stock, directly from my studio one at a time. The price is $30.00 including postage ($40.00 for outside the USA).
To order your very own Dorothy Daydreams print, please follow this link:
I will be at Wizard World Chicago this weekend Aug. 9-11. You will find me at Booth #313 where I will be promoting my friend Brian Wyrick’s new comic “The Henchmen.” I was honored to be asked to paint the cover for the first issue, which will debut at the convention, so please stop by and pick up a copy and a couple of creator autographs including mine!
Since it’s Shark Week, I should mention that my good friend, writer Andrew E.C. Gaska (for whom I did art in his “Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes” critically acclaimed book) has asked me to create art for his really fun new story, FRENZY, now on Kickstarter – a horror story about a shark bloodbath in the ocean – the $4k backer gets my original painting for free – we’re 22 days away from reaching our $30k goal, so if you want to help Kickstart a cool oceanic horror story, here’s the link:
Stay tuned–there will be big news concerning my WASTED LANDS project in the next blog. To get breaking news on WASTED LANDS, please “Like” my Fan Page: Also, I have a new Fan Page for non-WASTED LANDS news – that is, so please “Like” that page if you haven’t already. Here are some images of our new IRON WARS game for those of you who cannot be here to see it in person. Dave Dorman WASTED LANDS Board Game & Trading Card Game Launches at San Diego Comic-Con

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on July 13, 2013 by DaveandDeniseDorman
Summary: Dorman and Silent Gunfight Entertainment to preview “Wasted Lands: IRON WARS” – a new board and trading card game based on Dave Dorman’s “Wasted Lands” franchise at SDCC Booth #4500
CHICAGO, IL — July 1, 2013 — Fans of Dave Dorman’s train-centric “Wasted Lands” stories no longer have to shoot first and ask questions later when it comes to the next installment in the creator-owned franchise. Dorman, a legendary comic book artist, and gaming/entertainment company Silent Gunfight Entertainment will be introducing “Wasted Lands: IRON WARS” at San Diego Comic-Con, July 17 – 21, 2013. Fans will have an opportunity to study a mock-up of the game and its components; meet Dave Dorman, the creator of “Wasted Lands”; and discuss how the game is played with the game’s architect, Tim Bawden of Silent Gunfight.
Previews and meet-and-greets will take place at Dorman’s end cap Booth #4401/4500, facing toward the lobby, first row in, located near Door “F” of the San Diego Convention Center.
“We’ve really tried to create something unique in the game-playing area,” explained Bawden. “This game can work both as a strategy-driven board game and as a competitive trading card game. And by publishing new card sets in the future and adding an augmented reality aspect to the board game, we’ve created a game system that has the potential to give players a different experience every time they play.”
Dorman will be providing all of the art for the trading cards, game pieces, game board and packaging.  It’s a tall order, but worth all the effort – according to Dorman: “The game builds out an important part of the Wasted Lands story.  The time period we refer to as The Iron Wars is the era that set the dystopian stage on which all of our stories take place.  Players will become familiar with the Rail Barons and their ruthless struggles for domination over their rivals.”
It’s all part of a broader marketing strategy designed to whet the appetite of fans who have been clamoring for more Wasted Lands stories since Dorman first introduced his world to readers on the pages of Heavy Metal Magazine in the 1990s.
“When we started developing the game for Dave, we started asking more and more questions about things that were just alluded to in the various graphic novels, short stories and novelizations that had been produced over the last 20 years,” explained Mike Bawden, a partner in Silent Gunfight.  “Dave has so many great ideas and stories about the Wasted Lands tucked away in notebooks, sketchbooks and other spots in his studio, that it was like discovering a world’s history after only having seen the surface for so long.  This has been a fascinating process and, I’m sure, is bound to lead to more Wasted Lands stories and merchandise down the road.”
“I’ve always known my WASTED LANDS story was epic enough to be a natural for gaming, and I am glad it was Silent Gunfight who took it to the next level and created THE IRON WARS. The game is smartly designed by people who understand what works in gaming. It’s a lot of fun to play, not to mention, it has a lot of really fun art!” said Dorman, a board game and online gaming enthusiast.
Silent Gunfight and Dave Dorman will be sharing Booth #4500 to premiere IRON WARS. They will also premiere new art and storylines in the new book, THE WASTED LANDS CHRONICLES, which will inform fans of Dorman’s future plans for his series, which already includes a graphic novel, prose novels, an online serial, an online store and more.

Denise and I are co-producing a really fun documentary with director Evan Beloff and producer Frederic Bohbot of Bunbury Films called HEAVY METAL REVISITED, and I just received the artwork for the postcard we’ll be handing out at San Diego Comic-Con Booth #4500 this year, so here it is for your consideration:
