CHICAGO, IL — July 1, 2013 — Fans of Dave Dorman’s train-centric “Wasted Lands” stories no longer have to shoot first and ask questions later when it comes to the next installment in the creator-owned franchise. Dorman, a legendary comic book artist, and gaming/entertainment company Silent Gunfight Entertainment will be introducing “Wasted Lands: IRON WARS” at San Diego Comic-Con, July 17 – 21, 2013. Fans will have an opportunity to study a mock-up of the game and its components; meet Dave Dorman, the creator of “Wasted Lands”; and discuss how the game is played with the game’s architect, Tim Bawden of Silent Gunfight.
Previews and meet-and-greets will take place at Dorman’s end cap Booth #4401/4500, facing toward the lobby, first row in, located near Door “F” of the San Diego Convention Center.
“We’ve really tried to create something unique in the game-playing area,” explained Bawden. “This game can work both as a strategy-driven board game and as a competitive trading card game. And by publishing new card sets in the future and adding an augmented reality aspect to the board game, we’ve created a game system that has the potential to give players a different experience every time they play.”
Dorman will be providing all of the art for the trading cards, game pieces, game board and packaging. It’s a tall order, but worth all the effort – according to Dorman: “The game builds out an important part of the Wasted Lands story. The time period we refer to as The Iron Wars is the era that set the dystopian stage on which all of our stories take place. Players will become familiar with the Rail Barons and their ruthless struggles for domination over their rivals.”
It’s all part of a broader marketing strategy designed to whet the appetite of fans who have been clamoring for more Wasted Lands stories since Dorman first introduced his world to readers on the pages of Heavy Metal Magazine in the 1990s.
“When we started developing the game for Dave, we started asking more and more questions about things that were just alluded to in the various graphic novels, short stories and novelizations that had been produced over the last 20 years,” explained Mike Bawden, a partner in Silent Gunfight. “Dave has so many great ideas and stories about the Wasted Lands tucked away in notebooks, sketchbooks and other spots in his studio, that it was like discovering a world’s history after only having seen the surface for so long. This has been a fascinating process and, I’m sure, is bound to lead to more Wasted Lands stories and merchandise down the road.”
“I’ve always known my WASTED LANDS story was epic enough to be a natural for gaming, and I am glad it was Silent Gunfight who took it to the next level and created THE IRON WARS. The game is smartly designed by people who understand what works in gaming. It’s a lot of fun to play, not to mention, it has a lot of really fun art!” said Dorman, a board game and online gaming enthusiast.
Silent Gunfight and Dave Dorman will be sharing Booth #4500 to premiere IRON WARS. They will also premiere new art and storylines in the new book, THE WASTED LANDS CHRONICLES, which will inform fans of Dorman’s future plans for his series, which already includes a graphic novel, prose novels, an online serial, an online store and more.
